South Lawn (White House)

The South Lawn, located south of the White House in Washington, D.C., is a significant part of the grounds of the U.S. presidential residence. The lawn is bounded by East and West Executive Drives, as well as South Executive Drive, which leads to the Ellipse public lawn. Once open to the public, the area is now closed and used for both formal and informal events, including state arrival ceremonies and annual egg-rolling contests. The South Lawn also serves as a takeoff and landing pad for the presidential helicopter, Marine One.
