Peter Yan won the title of champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

On Sunday, July 12, as part of the UFC 251 tournament held on Yas Island in the United Arab Emirates, Russian Petr Yan won the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight title by defeating Brazilian Jose Aldo in the fifth round by technical knockout. Prior to that, Petr Yan was the champion of the Absolute Championship Akhmat in the bantamweight division.

Recall that Ian dominated for almost the entire distance of the fight and confidently spent the end of the fight - after a rather simple combination at the beginning of the fifth round, he methodically finished off his opponent already on the canvas. Also in this fight, Jan distinguished himself by setting a record for the number of significant blows for the lightest weight category - in less than 5 rounds, the Russian struck 194 blows. Also, according to the results of the battle, he entered the top ten strongest fighters, regardless of the weight category, according to the Fightmatrix website.

Previously, the title of UFC champion became vacant after the retirement of American Henry Cejudo.

On this occasion, the famous Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Sergei Kharitonov spoke in an interview. According to him, he knows Petr Yan well and characterizes him as a strong and purposeful fighter who is able to keep the belt for a long time. Sergey also added that Peter is a very strong-willed athlete and will keep himself in good shape for a long time. This is possible for three or even four years. So it will be very difficult for any applicant to throw the Russian off the top of the pedestal.
